We've kept Cedar Rapids families on the road for over four decades. Straight estimates, no upsells, no surprise invoices. Our two-bay shop is run by the same crew week in, week out — people who know your car because they probably fixed it last year, too.
From a quick synthetic oil change to a full timing-belt teardown, every job is quoted up front. No menu tricks, no fine print, no "while we were in there" invoices.
Synthetic and conventional oils in stock. Free top-off between services and a written multi-point inspection at the end of every visit.
Same-day brake jobs with OEM-equivalent or original pads. We measure pad life, not sales targets, and give you the exact mileage you've got left.
Modern cars don't need guesswork — they need a good tech, a good scope, and time. We book diagnostics in hour-long blocks and charge only for the work.
Timing jobs are our bread-and-butter. Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Hyundai — we stock the kits so your car isn't sitting in our bay for a week.
Cedar Rapids potholes are tough on tie-rods and sway-bar links. We align on a Hunter rack and send you home with a printed before/after sheet.
We handle local courier fleets, bakery delivery vans and family contractors. Schedules work around your operating hours, not ours.
Ironfield Motor Works opened on Blairs Ferry Road in the fall of 1983, when my grandfather Elmer rolled up the garage door for the first time. He had one rule: tell people the truth about their car, even if the truth meant walking away from a sale. Four decades later it's still the only rule we operate by.
My father Dale took the shop over in 2001. I grew up pulling ATF dipsticks and sweeping bay floors on Saturdays, and I've been turning wrenches here full-time since I came back from school in 2016. Our six technicians are all ASE-certified, our oldest tech Rafael has been with us since 1994, and every customer still gets a hand-written estimate on the same cream invoice pad my grandfather ordered from the Sinclair station across the road.
You don't come to a family garage because it's the cheapest in town — you come because when your sixteen-year-old is driving home from a volleyball game and the dash lights up, you want to know who's going to look at it in the morning. We want to be that garage for your family.
Every number below is the full ticket including parts, labor and tax. The only time a rate changes is when we find something extra, and we'll call you before we touch it.
Here's the kind of thing we hear from the folks who've trusted us with their family car over the years.
"Took my 2014 Outback in for a check-engine light before a road trip. Nate spent 20 minutes on the phone walking me through what he found and what could wait. Ended up costing less than my dealer quoted and the car ran better than it had in years."
"Honest. That's the word. My son's Civic needed a timing belt and water pump. I called three shops. Ironfield was the only one that said yes, we do that in-house, yes we warranty it, and here's the price before you drop it off. Done in a day."
"Rafael found the intermittent misfire that two other shops couldn't. He actually let me come stand next to the scope when he was looking at the cylinder waveforms. I learned more about my Camry in 30 minutes than I did in a decade of ownership."
"Got rear-ended two weeks before a cross-country move. Nate's team re-aligned the car, caught a hidden bent tie-rod, and had me back on the road in 48 hours. The out-of-state move was uneventful because of them."
"My daughter is in college and drives a hand-me-down Corolla. Ironfield treats her car like it belongs to a senator. She calls them before she calls me now, and that's a win."
"We run a small bakery delivery fleet — three Transit vans. Ironfield handles our fleet work on net-30 billing. Preventative maintenance is scheduled around our delivery windows and I've not had an unexpected breakdown in 18 months."
We keep two bays open every day for drop-ins. Call us before 10am and chances are we can fit you in the same day.
